How to Print a Sewing Pattern with a home printer (videotutorial)

Step 1: Download and Open Your Pattern

After purchasing your pattern, download the PDF file to your computer. Open the file using Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is free. You can download Adobe reader here: https://get.adobe.com/reader

Avoid using a web browser or other PDF viewers, as they may alter the printing settings.

Step 2: Select Your Size Layers

Our patterns are layered, which means you can show or hide different size layers before printing. In Adobe Acrobat Reader, click on the "Layers" icon and select only the sizes you want to print. This makes the pattern easier to read and reduces ink usage.

Step 3: Print the Test Square

Before printing the entire pattern, locate the test square (2x2cm). Print this page first, ensuring your printer is set to “Actual Size” or “100% Scale”, also select "Auto" as orientation. Measure the test square with a ruler—if it's off, adjust your settings and try again.

Step 4: Print the Full Pattern

Once the test square measures correctly, proceed to print the rest of the pattern. Make sure:

  • Page scaling is set to “Actual Size” or “Custom Scale: 100%.”

  • Layers: If your pattern has layers, you can select only the sizes you need before printing.

Step 5: Assemble the Pattern

Once all pages are printed, check the page numbers to ensure they are in order. Trim or fold along the designated edges and align the markings. Use tape or a glue stick to assemble the pages according to the provided layout guide.

Step 6: Cut or Trace Your Pattern

Now that your pattern is fully assembled, you can either cut directly along your chosen size line or trace the pattern onto tracing paper to preserve the original printout for future use.
